Here’s the latest following today’s (Monday) 6 p.m. telecon briefing to senior management by Wayne Kee, NASA Emergency Officer, from the KSC Emergency Operations Center (EOC):
KSC will remain CLOSED TOMORROW (TUESDAY).
Whether the center re-opens WEDNESDAY will be DECIDED TOMORROW.
Power was restored to KSC earlier today; however, like many City of Cocoa customers, the center remains without water service.
The utility reports that Irma caused no less than 37 breaks to its system on the mainland alone and are not expected to be repaired for 2 to 4 days.
In the meantime, Port-O-Lets are being deployed to key areas of the center for use by the 250 members of the Damage Assessment and Recovery Team (DART).
Tomorrow morning, they’ll relieve 120 KSC RideoOut Team (ROT) members who’ve served as the center’s caretakers since last Saturday, Sept. 9. The transition will take place at 8 a.m. in the Training Auditorium. Where possible, ROT members were allowed to go home to their own beds tonight.
An advance team of select DART members worked today to “safe” the center’s infrastructure and smooth the full DART’s arrival. They reported making significant progress in restoring capability to the center’s HVAC facilities.
