Current Storm Information: Hurricane Irma is currently a Category 4 Major Hurricane located approximately 405 miles SE of Miami, FL. Maximum sustained winds are 150 mph. The storm is moving WNW at 14 mph.
Impacts to Kennedy Space Center: Tropical Storm force winds (greater than 39 mph) are expected to impact the Center beginning around 10 am on Sunday. Arrival of 50 knot (58 mph) winds are expected around 4 pm, and Hurricane force winds are expected to begin around 11 pm Sunday night. Winds are expected to drop below 50 knots after 10 am on Monday. Throughout the duration of the storm, winds gusting over 90 knots (103 mph) should be expected. With the eye of Hurricane Irma expected to pass to the west of KSC, tornadic activity is possible through the duration of the storm. Rainfall amounts of 10 to 12 inches are expected, with isolated amounts up to 15 inches possible. Storm surge of up to 5 feet is also possible, but surge amounts are very track dependent.
